Space: Above and Beyond

Someone passed a DVD along to me and if you can find it, there's an old show that was on TV for one season (on Fox I think) back a while ago in the mid-90's called Space: Above and Beyond. Essentially it's SciFi but it follows a group of "space Marines" through a war. Some of the writing is highly contrived and the special effects and only so-so but there are some nuggets of pure writing gold in these. For example one of the episodes (ep. 22, near the end of the season called Sugar Dirt) follows the group after they were ostensibly abandoned by their carrier group. For those familiar with the history of Guadalcanal or WWII there's a touchstone there.  Surprisingly there's a lot of tie in to WWI and WWII. For example it makes reference to the Christmas Truce in WWI which, coincidentally, I was also thinking about recently.

if you're into SciFi or just into repeating history, it's worth a look.
